Who runs it
Play-by-Play is run by one person, its owner. To reach them, use one of the two forms at the end of this page.
Who runs the server your clip is stored on is not filled in here yet.
Your clip, and what is made from it
The video you upload, the part of it you chose, and what is made from it: a copy the right shape for a phone, a smaller copy to be watched, a still picture, a description of what happens in it, the lines, the voice that speaks them, the names you typed, and every video you export.
All of it is deleted 72 hours after you upload the clip, whether or not you pay. We look once a minute for clips that have reached that age.
You can delete a broadcast sooner, from its own page, its export page or the list on the first screen. From that moment nobody can open it, and its files and its words are removed from our server straight away. If something holds that up, such as a disk that does not answer, we try again every minute until it is done.
A video you saved or shared is on your phone or in the app you posted it to. We cannot reach it there, and it is yours to keep or delete.
No person looks at your clip. It is checked against the rules automatically.
Which AI services see your clip
- Google, the Gemini APIIt is sent the part of your clip that is commented, picture and sound, to describe what happens in it; still pictures from your clip, when the whole clip could not be watched; the description of your clip and the names you typed, to write the lines; each line and each name, yours or written for you, to check it against the rules.
- Anthropic, the Claude APIIt is sent the description of your clip and the names you typed, to write the lines.
- Cartesia, its speech APIIt is sent the words of each line, to speak them.
A clip that has to be stored at a service to be watched is removed there as soon as the watching ends. If that fails we try again every few minutes, and the service removes it by itself after 48 hours.
What is sent to be written, checked or spoken is sent without asking for it to be kept. What each company does on its own side is in its own terms.
What else we keep
A cookie with a random number, so that this browser finds its own broadcasts again. It holds no name and no account, and your browser keeps it for a year.
How many broadcasts this browser has made, and on which days. The count stays after the clips are gone, and holds nothing from a clip or a line.
Your network address, to limit how many free broadcasts one address can start in a day. It is kept only as a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address, under a key that changes every day.
That this browser agreed to the four statements before its first clip, and when.
The code in the link under a shared video, the pack it opens, and each time someone arrives by it. The code does not lead back to your video or to you.
What each broadcast cost to make and how long it took, as numbers. They stay after the 72 hours, with nothing from the clip in them.
If you subscribe
No payment provider is connected on this server, so nobody can subscribe here.
We keep the email address you gave at checkout, which of your phones are signed in, and your subscription as the payment provider describes it: whether it is active, the period you have paid for, and its reference numbers there.
These are kept for as long as you have an account. Nothing deletes them automatically: ask us with the report form and we delete them by hand.
To sign in on another phone we send a link to your email address. It works once, for 15 minutes, and we keep only a scrambled form of it. No mail is sent from this server yet.
A backup of the server holds the counts, the agreements and the subscriptions, email addresses included. It never holds a clip, a line, a name you typed or an export.
No advertising, no trackers
Play-by-Play counts its own use on its own server: how many clips were uploaded, how many broadcasts were made. It uses no advertising trackers and no analytics from another company, and it sells nothing about you.
Having something removed
Anyone can ask for a video to be removed, or report a problem, without an account. A person reads it and answers within 72 hours.
What you write there is kept for 30 days and then deleted. On this server it is not sent on by email yet.
To stop the forms being flooded we note which browser and which network address a request came from, the address only as a scrambled code. Both are wiped after an hour.
