The rules

Play-by-Play is for fun with clips of your own. These are the rules, in plain words.

Before your first clip

The first time you upload a clip, you confirm four things:

  • I am 18 or over.
  • I filmed this clip or have the right to use it.
  • The people in it, or the parents of any children in it, are fine with this.
  • My clip is sent to AI services to be watched and voiced, and is deleted after 72 hours.

What you may not upload

A clip is refused when it shows:

  • nudity or anything sexual
  • any nudity of a child
  • serious violence, injury or cruelty
  • a television broadcast, a film or other professional footage
  • anything else that is against the law

Only use clips you filmed yourself or have the right to use. A clip taken from television, or from somebody else, is not yours to use here.

Clips are checked automatically when they are watched; no person looks at them. When a clip is refused we only say that it goes against these rules, and it never uses one of your free broadcasts.

What the voice will not say

The voice never says, and your own words can never make it say:

  • a real person's full name, or a public figure
  • a real club, league, broadcaster or brand
  • anything about a person's body, looks, health, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexuality or gender
  • an insult aimed at a person
  • anything sexual

When a child is in the clip, the voice only says kind things.

Why your own words may be refused

Every line and every name you type is checked against the list above, automatically. A line that can't be said stays on your screen without a voice, and you are told why, so that you can change it.

Names and lines are in English: the Latin alphabet, numbers and ordinary punctuation. Emoji and other alphabets can't be used yet.

A check can get it wrong. If something harmless was refused, change a word and try again, or tell us about it below.

The limits

  • You must be 18 or over.
  • A clip can be up to 60 seconds long and 150 MB.
  • Between 5 and 30 seconds of it are commented. You trim a longer clip before it is uploaded.
  • A broadcast can use up to 2 names, of 20 characters each.
  • Your clip and everything made from it are deleted 72 hours after you upload it. Save your video if you want to keep it.

Report a problem

If a video made here shows you and you want it gone, ask us to remove it. You don't need an account. For anything else that is wrong with a video or with the service, send us a report.

A person reads both, and answers within 72 hours.
